"Great things in business are never done by one person. They're done by a team of people."
-Steve Jobs

Business Background

From the time I was 16 years old, I have been attending all of my father's (Danny Gaekwad) development and investment meetings. The knowledge and experience I gained from this only further helped create a hunger for my success. To be able to gain skills at an early age of negotiating and reading people of all backgrounds gave me great decision skills at a young age.

I have seen some great deals so close to contract fail. Great people start doing bad business, promises turn into a lot of missing money, etc. With this experience, I soon realized a couple of things, one being that sometimes the best investments are the investments never made, and if it's too good to be true, then it most likely is. Working with different hotel franchises, I have learned that there is no forgiveness and there are no shortcuts in business. You must be on point with everything you do and there is no excuse for lackadaisical work. Mercy and pity are words not found in the business vocabulary, if a great deal is present, most of the time it is every man for himself.

A principle taught to me by my father is, never go after your friends in business no matter how amazing the deal is. It isn't worth the bad karma or the loss of a friend. I am proud of him for sticking with this principle even though he has been let down by many people that were considered friends to him. Over time, those friends that conducted bad business with my father have all declared bankruptcy and it was karma at its finest.

I will carry on this principle as I conduct business in the future. By the year 2025, I will hopefully be considered one of the largest real estate developers in Florida and possibly the United States. We have many great deals lined up in the next few years that will put us into the Billion dollar net worth and it's going to be a great learning experience until that day comes.

FlipSetter aims to help students with post-grad life

Karan Gaekwad, Sabaresh Krishnan and Devoni Stephens, left to right, pose for a photo as they display the FlipSetter app on a laptop in Ocala on June 20. Gaekwad is the business partner and political correspondent for the app, Krishnan is founder and CEO, and Stephens is the student advocate. The app is designed to help high school students prepare for the future and apply for jobs and college by providing a digital timeline of their portfolio. It can be updated at any time from any device. The app is linked to Job Box, an online one-click job application program. [Bruce Ackerman/Staff photographer]

Two local graduates are behind the new app, which has been refined to target high school students.

A locally developed social media platform hopes to provide Ocala high school students with mentorship and guidance to prepare them for life after graduation.
